When we landed in Tokyo, I was excited to see what the airport would be like- I pictured it busy and bustling like the images I have seen of the city, but to my disappointment, it was really boring and so quiet. The next leg of our journey took us from Tokyo to Bangkok, a flight that was just a little over 5 hours. We arrived in Bangkok at around 11:45PM. We went through customs, a very easy process, and then went out to meet the driver that Janina had pre-arranged a few weeks earlier. Unfortunately, the driver was no where to be seen! We did get our first taste of the friendly Thai people. Many shuttle drivers tried to help us, but our driver could not be located, so we hired a car to take us to our hotel- the Glow Trinity Silom. It was a short trip to the hotel and when we got there, we found why it was called Glow! Neon pink everywhere. We had really nice, very modern rooms and hit the beds as soon as we got in.
I guess I should mention my travel buddies as I am sure they will be mentioned in future posts. First is Janina. Janina, her sister Marisa and I all worked at St. Joachim. My first year, Janina, another teacher Sandy, her boyfriend and I went on a backpacking tour of Europe. Almost every summer since then, we have gone on some vacation. We've been to Europe about 5 times, Mexico 3 times and New York City. We travel well together and we both share a love of travel, good food, and SHOPPING! This time, we also are traveling with one of Janina's colleagues from New Haven school district, Jo. She is a great person, with a big personality. She keeps us laughing and on our toes. So the three of us are off to explore somewhere we have never been before. I am sure it will be an adventure.
Janina and Jo enjoying out welcome drink at the Glow Trinity hotel!
